WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE

IMPORTANCE IN SOCIETY

 

There are a lot of issues that stem from the discrimination of women in the work place. Our society as a whole preaches equality for all in every aspect that no one person is greater than another. However, for our society to pay women less for the same work that a man does goes against this very belief. There are even laws in place that state:  “discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, fringe benefits, and any other term or condition of employment”. However, there is still gender discrimination in the workplace. Research shows that on average, women are paid 23% percent less then men. The issue is not just a sociological issue but it reaches our nations economic standpoint as well. If women were paid the same as men, there would be an additional 447.6 billion dollars generated in income. This income then could be taxed and overall help the country's current economic crisis. We cannot continue to preach equality while women are continued to be paid less. If the same work is being done than the same pay should be given.
